Benefits of IV Sedation Dentistry
IV sedation helps you stay calm and anxiety-free throughout your dental procedure, even if you have severe dental phobia.
Multiple treatments can often be completed in a single visit, reducing the number of appointments needed.
Most patients have little recollection of the procedure, making it ideal for those with dental anxiety or past traumatic experiences.
Initial Consultation
The dentist reviews your medical history, medications, and level of dental anxiety to determine if IV sedation is appropriate for you.
Pre-Procedure Instructions
You'll receive instructions on fasting (usually no food or drink for 6–8 hours before the procedure) and what medications to take or avoid.
Arrival and Preparation
On the day of the procedure, you'll be escorted to the treatment room. Vitals like blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels are monitored throughout.
IV Insertion
A small IV line is placed, typically in your hand or arm, to administer the sedative. The effects begin within minutes, inducing a calm, drowsy state.
Monitoring During Procedure
The dentist monitors your vital signs and adjusts sedation levels as needed while performing the dental work. You remain responsive but very relaxed.
Post-Procedure Recovery
After the procedure, you're monitored until the sedation wears off. You’ll feel groggy and will need someone to drive you home.
Aftercare Instructions
You’ll receive post-op care instructions and may need to rest for the remainder of the day while the sedative fully wears off.
